  1. 1 kilogram fine shrimp -- (known as "galmbo" -- in konkani")

  2. 1 bottle palm "feni" -- (drinking it is a -- favorite goan pastime :-)

  3. 1 pod garlic

  4. 12 peppercorns

  5. 6 dry red chiles

  6. 3 tablespoons salt

  7. 2 clean dry empty bottles

  1. Preparation : Clean the shrimp thoroughly, wash and tie in a muslin cloth. Allow to hang for about 12 hours till all the water has drained out. Squeeze out any water that may be left. Grind the shrimps, salt, garlic and peppercorns with palm feni only. Mix dry chiles (whole). If any feni is left, it may be added to the shrimp paste. Fill in the bottle and cap tightly.
