  3. 3/4 c. milk

  4. 1/4 c. sugar

  5. 1 tsp. salt

  6. 2 tbsp. soft shortening

  7. 1/2 c. chopped nuts (or 1/4 c. nuts and 1/4 c. raisins)

  1. Crumble or sprinkle yeast in warm water; stir to dissolve. Scald milk; add sugar, salt, and shortening and mix. Cool to lukewarm. Add milk mixture to yeast. Combine fruits and nuts with flour; add to liquids and mix to blend well. Scrape down batter from sides of bowl. Cover and let rise in warm place, 30-45 minutes, or until doubled.
