  2. 1 package (16 oz.) dried green split peas -- rins

  3. 1 hambone -- or 2 meaty

  4. -- hamhocks, or 2 c.

  5. -- diced ham

  6. 3 carrots -- peeled & sliced

  7. 1 medium onion -- chopped

  8. 2 stalks celery plus leaves chopped

  9. 1 cloves garlic -- minced (1 to 2)

  10. 1 bay leaf

  11. 1/4 cup fresh parsley -- chopped

  12. 1 tablespoon seasoned salt -- (or to taste)

  13. 1/2 teaspoon fresh pepper

  14. 1 1/2 quarts hot water

  1. Layer ingredients in slow cooker, pour in water. DO NOT STIR. Cover and cook on high 4 to 5 hours or on low 8 to 10 hours until peas are very soft and ham falls off bone. Remove bones and bay leaf. Serve garnished with croutons. *Freezes well.
