  1. 12 pieces red shoestring licorice or licorice whips

  2. 24 small red gumdrops (1/2-inch)

  3. 24 cutout butter cookies

  1. Cut licorice into twenty-four 4-1/2-in. pieces. Make a small slit in the bottom of a gumdrop near one edge; insert one licorice piece end into the gumdrop. Make another slit in the opposite side of the gumdrop; insert the other end of the licorice. Carefully push the small end of gumdrop up through the hole of a butter cookie. Repeat with remaining gumdrops, licorice and cookies. Yield: 2 dozen.
