  2. 1 cup all purpose flour

  3. 2/3 cup yellow cornmeal

  4. 2 tablespoons sugar

  5. 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

  6. 1/2 teaspoon salt

  7. 2 tablespoons solid vegtable shortening

  8. 1 large egg -- lightly beaten

  9. 3/4 cup whole milk

  10. 8 hotdogs

  11. vegtable oil for deep frying

  12. 8 wooden skewers

  1. Combine flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder and salt in a mixing bowl. Add shortening and blend until mixture is crumbly. Add egg and milk; mix lightly.

  2. Pat dogs dry. Coat each one as evenly as possible with batter.

  3. Heat oil to 375. Add batter coated dogs and cook until golden brown. About 4 to 5 minutes. Serve at once, with or without inserting skewers through bottom.
