  1. 1 pkg dry yeast or 1 

  2. 1/2 t.

  3. 1/2 c. milk

  4. 1/4 c. sugar

  5. 1/4 c. shortening

  6. 3 c. all-purpose flour

  7. 1 egg , beaten

  8. Shredded coconut

  9. Green food coloring

  10. Icing:

  11. 1 c. powder sugar (approximately)

  12. 1 T. milk (approximately)

  13. 1/2 t. vanilla

  14. candy decorations

  1. Soften yeast in 1/4 c. warm water(110). Heat milk, sugar, shortening and 1 t. salt till sugar dissolves; cool to lukewarm. Stir in 1 c. flour; beat smooth. Add yeast and egg. Beat well. Stir in enough remaining flour to make soft dough. Knead for 8-10 minutes. Place in creased bowl. Turn once. Cover and let rise till doubled. About 1 hour. Punch down and divide into thirds. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes.

  2. Shape 1/3 of dough into 6 “eggs”; place close together in center of a greased baking sheet. For “nest” shape remaining dough into two 26“ ropes; twist together. Coil rope around ”eggs“ and seal ends. Cover; let rise till double (about 1 hour). Bake 375 for 15-20 minutes. Remove from sheet; cool. Tint coconut with a few drops of green food coloring. Frost with icing. Sprinkle coconut on ”nest“ and candy decorations on ”eggs".
