  1. 1 cup unsalted butter , softened

  2. 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar

  3. 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  4. 2 large eggs

  5. 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  6. 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  7. 1 cup whole wheat flour

  8. 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  9. 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  10. 1/2 teaspoon salt

  11. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  12. 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

  13. 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

  14. 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. In mixing bowl, combine butter, brown sugar, white sugar, eggs and vanilla.

  3. Beat until smooth and light.

  4. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and cayenne pepper.

  5. Gradually mix into wet ingredients.

  6. Beat until just combined.

  7. Fold in chocolate chips until combined.

  8. Scoop cookies into 2-inch balls and place on cookie sheets.

  9. Bake until lightly golden, about 10 minutes.

  10. Let cool slightly, then remove from cookie sheets and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
