  3. 10 anchovies

  4. 3 hard-cooked eggs

  5. 2 tablespoons grated cheese

  6. 1 teaspoon curry powder

  7. 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

  8. Salt to taste

  9. Brown bread

  10. Watercress

  1. Bone anchovies and put them in basin or mortar with eggs, cheese, and one tablespoon vegetable shortening. Pound together.

  2. Mix remaining vegetable shortening with curry powder, lemon juice, and salt to taste.

  3. Cut some thin brown bread, spread with curry mixture, and a layer of anchovy paste.

  4. Lay another piece of bread on top and cut into fancy shapes.

  5. Arrange on a lace paper and garnish with watercress.

  6. Sufficient for fifteen sandwiches.
