  1. 1/4 cup butter

  2. 3 large yellow onion s, sliced

  3. 1 cup dry white wine

  4. 3 cans (14 oz.) beef or chicken broth

  5. 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce

  6. 1/2 tsp. salt

  7. 1/2 tsp. dried thyme leaves

  8. 1 loaf French bread , sliced

  9. 4 oz. shredded Swiss cheese

  1. Melt butter in large skillet over high heat. Add onions, cook and stir 15 minutes or until the onions are soft and slightly browned. Stir in wine. Combine onion mixture, broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt and dried thyme in slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 4-4½ hours. Meanwhile, toast bread slices. Ladle soup into 4 serving bowls; top with bread and cheese. Garnish with fresh thyme, if desired.
