  1. 700 g dates

  2. 700g flour self raising

  3. 700g sugar and golden syrup (half and half)

  4. 2 pints warm water

  5. 2 tablespoon bicarb of soda

  6. 1 tablespoon of ground ginger

  7. 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon

  8. 8 eggs

  9. 250g butter

  10. vanilla essence

  1. bring to boil in large pan water,dates and sugar until dates have dissolved to a pulp add butter leave to cool stirring so often when cooled to room temp add flour bicarb and flavourings then puree till smooth pour into a deep tray lined with greaseproof paper tray must be 4 inch deep at least bake in oven for 90 mins more or less at 180oc peel off paper and cut into portions.
