  1. 6 baking apples (such as Granny Smith, Rome Beauty, Empire or Idared)

  2. 3/4 cup unsalted mixed nuts, coarsely chopped

  3. 1/2 cup packed light-brown sugar

  1. Heat oven to 350°F. Have ready an ungreased shallow 2-qt baking dish.

  2. Core apples without cutting through bottom, making cavity about 1 in. wide. Using a vegetable peeler, peel a 1-in. strip around top.

  3. Mix nuts and sugar. Stuff into cavities and place in baking dish; drizzle apples with 2 Tbsp water.

  4. Bake 45 to 55 minutes until apples are tender when pierced with a knife. Serve warm or at room temperature.
