  7. 20 California dried figs

  8. -- stewed, unsweetened

  9. 2 c Sifted all-purpose flour

  10. 4 1/2 ts Baking powder

  11. 2 tb Sugar

  12. 1 t Salt

  13. 2 Eggs

  14. 1/3 c Shortening -- melted

  15. 3/4 c Milk (about)

  16. Butter muffin pans generously. Snip stems off stewed

  17. figs and place figs in mixing bowl. Beat them hard,

  18. until whirled into small bits. Sift flour, measure

  19. and sift again with baking powder, sugar and salt.

  20. Add dry ingredients to figs and mix lightly. Add

  21. eggs, shortening and milk, and stir together until

  22. just mixed. Fill muffin pans half full. Bake in hot

  23. oven (400 F.) for about 12 minutes or until lightly

  24. browned.
