  5. 1 c Chopped figs

  6. 1 c Raisins

  7. 1 c Boiling water

  8. 1/2 c Shortening

  9. 1 c Brown sugar

  10. 2 ts Baking powder

  11. 2 ts Cinnamon

  12. 1/4 ts Salt

  13. 2 Eggs, well beaten

  14. 2 c Flour

  15. Pour boiling water over raisins and figs and allow to stand while

  16. preparing other ingredients. Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs.

  17. Sift flour, measure, and sift with baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.

  18. Add alternately with fruit mixture to creamed sugar and shortening.

  19. Beat thoroughly. Pour into well-oiled loaf pan. Bake in moderate oven

  20. (375 F) about 40 minutes. --
