  1. 1/2 cup cream cheese

  2. 2 teaspoons freshly snipped chives

  3. 2 teaspoons drained tiny caper s, chopped

  4. 1/2 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest

  5. Freshly ground black pepper , to taste

  6. 2 whole English cucumber s, washed, ends trimmed

  7. 8 ounces thinly sliced smoked salmon

  1. Combine the cream cheese, chives, capers, lemon zest and pepper in a small bowl. Set aside.

  2. Cut the cucumber crosswise in thin slices. Pat dry and spread each slice with cream cheese mixture. Lay a slice of salmon over cream cheese and serve.
