  1. 1 cup 237ml Dried lentils

  2. 1 cup 160g / 5.6oz Basmati rice

  3. 2 teaspoons 10ml Vegetable oil

  4. 2 Cinnamon stick - (1" ea)

  5. 2 Whole cloves

  6. 1 teaspoon 5ml Cumin seeds

  7. 3 Garlic cloves - finely chopped

  8. 2 teaspoons 10ml Chopped fresh ginger

  9. 15 cups 1027ml Water

  10. 2 teaspoons 10ml Salt

  11. 1 teaspoon 5ml Sugar

  12. 1/4 teaspoon 1 1/3ml Turmeric

  13. 1/4 cup 4g / 0.1oz Chopped fresh cilantro

  14. 2 tablespoons 30ml Fresh lime juice

  1. Recipe Instructions Rinse lentils; drain. Place in small bowl. Rinse rice; drain. Place in another small bowl. Heat oil in heavy large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add cinnamon, cloves, and cumin; saute about 2 minutes. Add garlic and ginger; saute about 30 seconds. Add water, salt, sugar, and turmeric; bring to boil. Reduce heat; add lentils and cook 8 minutes. Increase heat to high. Add rice and boil 5 minutes. Reduce heat; cover and simmer until lentils and rice are tender and liquid is absorbed, about 8 minutes longer. Remove from heat; let stand covered 5 minutes. Transfer rice to large bowl. Remove cinnamon stick pieces and cloves. Mix in cilantro and lime juice. This recipe yields 6 servings.
