  1. 1 cup shortening

  2. 2 cups sugar

  3. 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

  4. 3 cups cake flour

  5. 1/2 teaspoon salt

  6. 4 eggs -- unbeaten

  7. 1/2 cup cocoa

  8. 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

  9. 2 cups cold water

  10. 1 teaspoon baking powder

  1. Preparation : With your hand cream together the shortening and sugar until it is very light and fluffy. Sift together the cake flour and salt; set aside. Add eggs one at a time to the creamed shortening and sugar. Mix the cocoa with the water and add to the shortening mixture. Stir in the flour mixture and vanilla. Finally add the baking powder. Pour batter into greased and floured cake pans. There were no baking instructions with this recipe so I am including directions from another chocolate cake recipe. Bake at 350 for approx 30. Use toothpick test for doneness. Cool and frost with Mom's Caramel Frosti
