  1. 250 g plain flour

  2. 1/2 tsp sea salt

  3. 1/2 tsp baking powder

  4. 1/2 tsp cinnamon

  5. 50 g butter

  6. 1 tbsp soft brown sugar

  7. 25 g dates, chopped

  8. 25 g walnuts, chopped

  9. 150 ml natural yogurt a little milk for brushing

  10. 1 tbsp demerara sugar

  1. Preheat the oven to 220°C/425°F. Sift the flour, salt, baking powder and cinnamon into a mixing bowl. Rub in the butter until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar, dates and walnuts, then enough yogurt to mix to a soft dough. Lightly knead on a floured surface and roll out to 2 cm thickness. Cut out 5 cm rounds with a pastry cutter. Transfer to a lightly greased, floured baking sheet. Brush with milk and sprinkle with sugar. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until risen and golden. Cool on a wire rack.
