  1. 1 cup water

  2. 1/2 pound ham, cut into 1/2-inch pieces

  3. 2 pounds green beans, trimmed Salt and freshly ground black pepper

  1. In 3-quart saucepan, bring ham and water to a boil over medium-high heat. Add green beans and cook, stirring occasionally, until desired doneness, anywhere from 7 to 30 minutes.

  2. To serve, transfer beans to serving dish. Boil broth until reduced to about 1/2 cup. Taste and add salt and pepper; pour over beans.
