  2. 3/4 cup sugar

  3. 1 large egg

  4. 1 teaspoon vanilla

  5. 2 cups flour

  6. 1 teaspoon baking soda

  7. 1 teaspoon cream of tartar

  8. 1/4 teaspoon salt

  1. Instructions Mix together the butter and sugar. Beat in the egg and vanilla. In a separate bowl, blend together the remaining dry ingredients. Add half of the butter mixture to the dry ingredients and mix well. Once blended, add the remaining butter mixture and mix again. Separate into two large, equal-sized balls of dough. Flatten and cover with waxed paper. Refrigerate for 6 hours. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Roll dough out flat and shape individual cookies by hand or use cookie cutters. Arrange on a greased cookie sheet and bake for ten minutes, being careful not to overcook. Cookies are done when the edges become golden brown.
