  2. 1 cup sliced onion

  3. 1/4 cup melted shortening

  4. 1/4 cup allâˆ'purpose flour

  5. 2 teaspoons salt

  6. 1/8 teaspoon pepper

  7. 1/2 teaspoon paprika

  8. Dash of ground ginger

  9. Dash of ground allspice

  10. 1 pound round steak, cut into 1 inch squares

  11. 2 1/2 cups boiling water

  12. 2 cups diced potatoes

  13. Pastry for 9 inch pie

  1. Saute onion in shortening.

  2. Remove onion and set aside.

  3. Combine flour, salt, pepper, paprika, ginger and allspice.

  4. Dredge steak in flour mixture.

  5. Brown meat in shortening.

  6. Add water.

  7. Cover and simmer about 1 hour or until meat is tender.

  8. Stir in potatoes.

  9. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes or until potatoes are done.

  10. Pour into a greased 1 1/2 quart casserole.

  11. Place onion on top.

  12. Put pastry over top and seal edges.

  13. Cut slits in pastry to allow steam to escape.

  14. Bake at 450 degrees F for 25 minutes.
