  1. 2/3 cup butter (NO substitutes)

  2. 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  3. 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

  4. 3 teaspoons brown sugar

  5. 1/2 cup sifted confectioners' sugar

  6. 2 to 3 teaspoons milk

  7. 2 tablespoons finely chopped toasted cashews

  1. Line an 8-inch square pan with foil, extending foil over edges of pan; set pan aside. Heat butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat until the butter turns the color of light brown sugar. Stir frequently. Remove from heat; cool slightly. Set aside 2 tablespoons of this butter for the icing. Stir vanilla extract into remaining butter; chill mixture for 1 hour or until firm.
