  1. 1 1/3 cups 83g / 2.9oz All-purpose flour

  2. 1/2 cup 55g / 1.9oz Unsweetened cocoa powder

  3. 1 teaspoon 5ml Baking powder

  4. 1 teaspoon 5ml Baking soda

  5. 1/2 teaspoon 2 1/2ml Salt

  6. 1 cup 160g / 5.6oz Packed brown sugar

  7. 1/2 cup 118ml Buttermilk

  8. 1/2 cup 118ml Water

  9. 1/4 cup 59ml Vegetable oil

  10. 1 1/2 teaspoons 7 1/2ml Vanilla extract Icing sugar - optional

  1. Recipe Instructions In large bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Press brown sugar through sieve; combine with dry ingredients. Add buttermilk, water, oil and vanilla; whisk until smooth. Scrape into greased 9-inch square baking pan. Bake in 350F oven for about 35 minutes or until tester inserted in center comes out clean. Let cool. Dust with icing sugar (if using). Cut into squares.
