  1. 4 or 5 green or McIntosh apples

  2. 2 tsp. cinnamon

  3. 5 tbsp. sugar

  4. 2 cups sugar

  5. 1 cup vegetable oil

  6. 4 eggs

  7. 3 cups sifted flour

  8. 3 tsp. baking powder

  9. 1/4 cup orange juice

  10. 2 1/2 tsp. vanilla

  11. 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Peel and cut apples. Blend cinnamon and sugar. Sprinkle this mixture over the apples and set aside. In a large mixing bowl, cream together sugar and oil. Add eggs and blend well. Sift flour, salt, and baking powder together in smaller bowl. Measure out orange juice. Alternate adding juice and flour mixture to oil mixture. Beat until smooth. Stir in walnuts using a spoon. Pour 1/2 of batter into a well-greased 10-inch tube pan. Arrange 1/2 of the apples over it, then pour rest of the batter over the apples. Place the remaining apples on top of batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours. Allow cake to cool in an upright position.
