  11. 5 apples, pared, cored, and sliced

  12. 2 tablespoons lemon juice

  13. 2 cups cooked rice

  14. 1 cup packed brown sugar - divided use

  15. 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  16. 1/4 teaspoon salt

  17. 3/4 cup all-purpose flour

  18. 6 tablespoons butter or margarine

  19. 1/2 cup chopped nut meats

  1. Combine apples and lemon juice in saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, 5 minutes or until apples are fork tender.

  2. Combine rice, apples, 1/2 cup sugar, cinnamon and salt in buttered shallow baking dish.

  3. Mix flour and remaining 1/2 cup sugar. Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. Stir in nuts, if desired. Sprinkle over rice mixture.

  4. Bake at 350°F (175°F) oven for 30 minutes.

  5. Serve warm topped with whipped cream or ice cream, if desired.
