  2. 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  3. 1 1/2 cups firmly packed brown sugar

  4. 1/2 cup butter, softened

  5. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  6. 1 egg

  7. 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  8. 1 teaspoon baking soda

  9. 1/2 teaspoon salt

  10. 1 cup buttermilk

  11. 2 cups chopped rhubarb

  12. 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

  13. 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

  14. Sauce :

  15. 2 cups rhubarb

  16. 2/3 cup granulated sugar

  17. 4 tablespoons water

  18. 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  2. Grease and flour 13 x 9 inch pan.

  3. In large bowl, beat together sugar, brown sugar and butter.

  4. Add vanilla extract and egg. Beat well.

  5. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup, level off.

  6. Combine flour, baking soda and salt.

  7. Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk, beating until well combined.

  8. Spoon 2/3 batter in pan, spreading evenly.

  9. Spoon rhubarb over batter.

  10. Top with remaining batter, spreading evenly, carefully.

  11. Combine 2 tablespoons sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, sprinkle over batter.

  12. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until golden brown.

  13. Cool completely.

  14. In medium saucepan, combine all sauce ingredients.

  15. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally, until rhubarb is tender.

  16. Refrigerate sauce until cool.

  17. Serve over cake.
