  2. 4 fresh california nectarines -- up to

  3. 1 cup fresh cherries --

  4. 2 packages 3 oz each 1/8 teaspoon salt

  5. 1 1/2 cups boiling water

  6. 1 1/2 cups cold water

  7. 1 tablespoon flesh lemon or lime juice

  8. 1 cup banana -- finely sliced

  9. 1/2 cup flaked coconut

  1. Slice nectarines to measure 3 to 3 1/2 cups. Arrange 8 slices in bottom of 5 1/2- or 6- cup mold; cut remaining slices crosswise into halves.

  2. Pit and halve cherries.

  3. Dissolve gelatin and salt in boiling water; stir in cold water and lemon juice.

  4. Chill 2/3 mixture until it mounds on spoon; fold in nectarine half-slices and cherry halves.

  5. Gently spoon into mold; chill until partially set.

  6. Meanwhile, chill remaining gelatin mixture until it mounds on spoon; fold in banana and coconut and turn into mold over first layer. Chill until firm.
