  1. Lentil Burgers

  2. 2 cups dried red lentils

  3. 1 cup bread crumbs, preferably whole wheat

  4. 1 lg onion, finely chopped

  5. 2 garlic cloves, minced

  6. Salt and pepper Wash lentils thoroughly and pick out any sticks and stones and grit

  7. which might get in them. In a large pot, bring the water to a

  8. rolling boil. Add lentils and cook for 20-25 minutes until the

  9. lentils start to puree. Drain and let cool. It is not necessary

  10. to let them get cold.

  11. Transfer the cooked lentils to a large mixing bowl. Add bread

  12. crumbs, garlic and onion and mix thoroughly. Season well.

  13. You then can experiment with herbs and spices. I usually add loads

  14. of cajun spice, with healthy measures of parsley, basil and marjoram.

  15. You could try thyme or sage. It is your choice.

  16. If the mixture does not hold together well enough, add more bread

  17. crumbs. Form into patties and then cook as you would a regular

  18. hamburger in a little oil. Or barbecue. If they are really dry,

  19. then they hold together well enough to barbecue.
