  1. Chocolate Bread Pudding

  2. 5 cups cubed bread, without crust

  3. 3 cups warm milk

  4. 1 1/2 oz unsweetened chocolate

  5. 1/4 tsp salt

  6. 3 eggs

  7. 1/2 cup sugar

  8. 1 tsp vanilla

  9. Great Aunt Teddy's Sterling Sauce (see below)

  10. Heat oven to 350 F. Soak bread in milk to which the chocolate has

  11. been added. (You can also try using evaporated milk and diluting

  12. 3 egg yolks, sugar, and vanilla,

  13. and beat well. Pour over the bread, and stir lightly with fork

  14. until blended. Fold in 3 stiffly beaten egg whites. Place in

  15. baking dish and set in larger pan. Add hot water to come halfway

  16. up sides. Bake 45-60 minutes-until knife inserted in center comes

  17. out clean. Serve with Sterling Sauce. Sterling Sauce

  18. 1/3 cup butter, at room temperature

  19. 1 cup brown sugar

  20. 4 Tbsp cream

  21. 1/2 tsp vanilla

  22. Cream butter and sugar. Add cream and vanilla drop by drop, beating

  23. constantly to avoid separation. Serve with Mary Alison Belding's

  24. Chocolate Bread Pudding.
