  1. 1 cup root beer

  2. 1 cup ketchup

  3. 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice

  4. 1/4 cup orange juice

  5. 3 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

  6. 1-1/2 Tablespoons dark brown sugar, packed

  7. 2 Tablespoons Steen's Cane Syrup

  8. 1 teaspoon liquid smoke

  9. 1/2 teaspoon lemon peel, grated

  10. 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

  11. 1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic

  12. 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

  1. Combine root beer, ketchup , lemon juice, orange juice, Worcestershire sauce , brown sugar, syrup, liquid smoke, lemon peel, ginger , garlic , and onion powder in a heavy medium-sized saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat and simmer until sauce is reduced to 1-1/2 cups volume, about 20 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper and cool slightly. Transfer to a ceramic bowl, cover and refrigerate.

  2. This barbecue sauce can be made 2 weeks in advance. Keep refrigerated.
