  3. 1 cup shortening

  6. 2 eggs

  7. 2 teaspoons almond extract

  8. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  11. 2 teaspoons baking powder

  12. 2 teaspoons baking soda

  13. 1/4 pound blanched whole almonds

  14. 1 beaten egg for glaze

  1. Cream together lard, shortening and sugar. Beat in eggs and both extracts.

  2. Combine flour, baking powder and baking soda. Mix well and add to creamedmixture. Dough will be dry and crumbly. Roll dough into 1-inch balls.

  3. Place 2-inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Press an almond in thecenter of each ball. Brush top of each cookie with beaten egg. Bake - 3501/420-25 minutes. Makes 8 dozen
