  1. 2 c Sugar

  2. 3/4 c Bacon grease

  3. 2 c Water or milk

  4. 1 c Raisins

  5. 1 ts Cloves

  6. 1 ts Nutmeg

  7. 1 ts Allspice

  8. 1/2 ts Salt

  9. 1/2 c Flour

  10. 1 ts Baking soda

  11. 2 ts Baking powder

  12. 1 c Nuts; chopped

  1. Put sugar and bacon grease into a cast iron pot and heat. Stir in water or milk, raisins, cloves, nutmeg, allspice and salt. Bring to a boil; allow to boil 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Take pot from stove and allow to cool. Sift together flour, baking soda and baking powder. Add this to cooled mixture and beat thoroughly. Stir in nuts. Pour batter into buttered baking pan. Bake @ 350 degrees for 40 minutes. This squaw cake is to be eaten plain or sprinkled with some powdered sugar.
