  2. 1 yeast cake

  3. 1 cup milk, scalded and cooled

  4. 1/4 cup lukewarm water

  5. 2 tablespoons sugar

  6. 2 tablespoons shortening or butter, melted

  7. 2 eggs

  8. 2 cups sifted flour

  9. 1/2 teaspoon salt

  1. Dissolve yeast and sugar in lukewarm liquid.

  2. Add the shortening or butter, eggs beaten until light, and flour to make a moderately stiff batter. Add the salt and beat until smooth.

  3. Cover and set aside in warm place for about one hour.

  4. When risen, fill well-greased muffin tins half full.

  5. Cover and let rise again for about half an hour.

  6. Bake twenty minutes at 400 degrees.
