  1. Ginger and Molasses Cookies

  2. 3/4 cup soft shortening

  3. 1 cup brown sugar (packed)

  4. 1 egg

  5. 1/4 cup molasses

  6. 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

  7. 2 tsp baking soda

  8. 1/4 tsp salt

  9. 1/2 tsp ground cloves

  10. 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  11. 1 tsp ground ginger

  12. granulated sugar

  13. Mix shortening, brown sugar, egg, and molasses thoroughly. Measure

  14. flour by dipping method or by sifting. Blend all dry ingredients;

  15. stir into molasses mixture. Chill.

  16. 375 F. Roll dough in

  17. 1 1/4 inch balls. Dip tops in

  18. sugar. Place balls, sugared side up, 3 inches apart on greased

  19. 2 or 3 drops of water. Bake

  20. 12 minutes, or just until set but not hard. Makes

  21. 4 dozen.
