  1. 1/4c Margarine or butter

  2. 3/4c Packed brown sugar

  3. 1 cn (about 8-3/4 ounces) Apricot halves,drained

  4. 12 pn Cooked prunes

  5. 1 1/3c All-purpose flour*

  6. 1 c Granulated sugar

  7. 1/3c Shortening

  8. 3/4c Milk

  9. 1 1/2ts Baking powder

  10. 1/2ts Salt

  11. 1 Egg

  1. + Directions : *if using self-rising flour Omit baking powder and Salt. This cake first became popular in the 1920s and was also known as Spider,. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Heat margarine in 10-inch ovenproof skillet or square pan, 9 X 9 X 2 inches, in oven until melted. Sprinkle brown sugar over margarine. Arrange apricot halves and prunes in skillet. Beat remaining ingredients on low speed 30 seconds, scraping bowl constantl Beat on high speed 3 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Pour over fruit in skillet. Bake skillet 45 to 50 minutes, square 50 to 55 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Immediately invert onto heatproof plate. Let skillet remain over cake a few minutes. Serve warm and, if desired, with Sweetened Whipped Cream.
