  5. 1 c Split peas; green

  6. 1/4 c Barley

  7. 1/2 c Lima beans; dried

  8. 10 c Water

  9. 2 Onion; chopped

  10. 2 Bay leaves

  11. 1 ts Celery seed; optional

  12. 1 ts Basil

  13. 1 ts Thyme

  14. 2 Carrots

  15. 1 Potato; chopped

  16. 2 Celery; chopped

  17. 1/2 c Parsley sprigs; chopped

  18. Recipe by: McDougall Plan Begin by placing peas, barley, and lima beans in

  19. large soup pot with 8 cups of water, onion, bay leaves, and celery seed.

  20. Cook over low heat, covered, about 1 1/2 hours. Then add the remaining

  21. vegetables and seasonings and cook about 45 minutes longer. Add more water

  22. if necessary.

  23. HELPFUL HINTS: Also can be made without lima beans; in this case, increase

  24. split peas to 2 cups. Freezes well. Makes a good sandwich spread; also good

  25. on baked potatoes.
