  1. Treacle Pudding or Syrup Pudding

  2. Serves 4 6 oz self-raising flour

  3. 3 oz shredded suet or softened butter

  4. 2 oz caster sugar

  5. 1 egg

  6. 6 tbsp milk

  7. 2 tbsp treacle or golden syrup

  8. Grease a 2 pint pudding basin if making a steamed pudding, or a

  9. deep pie dish if baking the pudding.

  10. Mix together the flour, suet or butter and sugar.

  11. Make a well in the centre and add the egg and enough milk to give

  12. a soft dropping consistency.

  13. Spoon the treacle or golden syrup into the bottom of the prepared

  14. dish then pour in the pudding mixture.

  15. If steaming the pudding, cover with pleated greaseproof paper or foil and secure with string. Steam for 1 1/2 - 2 hours.

  16. 350 0F for about 1 hour, until well

  17. risen. Serve hot with custard.
