  1. 3 cups whole- wheat breadcrumbs (or white)

  2. 1 tsp grated onion

  3. 1 tsp vegetable salt

  4. 1/4 tsp nutmeg

  5. 1 1/2 pints oyster s

  6. 1/3 cup oyster liquid

  7. 1/3 cup cream

  1. Combine the melted butter, breadcrumbs, onion and seasonings. Drain the oysters, saving ⅓ cup of the juice. Put a layer of oysters in the bottom of a buttered baking dish. Top with a layer of buttered crumbs, then another layer of oysters. Pour oyster liquid and cream over the three layers, then top with remaining crumbs. Sprinkle with paprika and bake in oven at 375° for 25 to 30 minutes, or till the crumbs are browned.
