  6. 1/2 c Brown sugar, packed

  7. 2 ts Baking powder

  8. 1/2 ts Ground cinnamon

  9. 1/4 ts Ground nutmeg

  10. 1/4 ts Ground ginger

  11. 1/8 ts Salt

  12. 2 tb Butter or margarine

  13. 1 c Dried apples; chopped

  14. 1/2 c Unsweetened applesauce

  15. 1/4 c Buttermilk

  16. 1 Egg

  17. Topping:

  18. 1 ts Granulated sugar

  19. 1/8 ts Ground cinnamon

  21. Preheat oven to 375 degrees; spray a large cookie sheet with nonstick

  22. cooking spray. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, baking

  23. powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and salt; mix well. Using a pastry blender

  24. or fork, cut in the margarine until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  25. Stir in the apples. In a small bowl, combine the applesauce, buttermilk and egg; mix well. Add to hte dry ingredients; stir just until moistened. The

  26. dough will be sticky. Place the dough on the cookie sheet. With wet

  27. 8-inch circle about 3/4-inch thick. In a small

  28. bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over the top of the dough. With

  29. 8 wedges, cutting about 1/4-inch

  30. 18 to 22 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick

  31. inserted in the center comes out clean. Cut into wedges. Serve warm. Penny
