  6. 1 1/2 c Oatmeal

  7. 1 t Ginger, powder

  8. 1/4 lb Butter, unsalted

  9. 1/3 c Sugar, brown, dark

  10. 1/4 ts Baking soda

  11. Cream the butter; add the sugar and beat until light

  12. and fluffy. Dissolve the baking soda in the water and add, stirring well. Add the oatmeal and ginger, mixing

  13. well. The mixture should be fairly firm. If necessary,

  14. add a little more oatmeal. Knead lightly on a floured

  15. surface. Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Press the

  16. 8 x

  17. inches. The dough should be about 1/2 inch thick. Bake

  18. 300 degree oven for 35 minutes, or until brown

  19. on top. Cut into squares while hot.
