  1. 2-1/2 cups chopped fresh or frozen rhubarb (1-inch pieces)

  2. 1 cup water

  3. 1/2 cup sugar

  4. 2 tablespoons grated lemon peel

  5. 1/4 teaspoon salt

  6. 1 cup sliced fresh or frozen unsweetened strawberries

  7. 2 tablespoons lemon juice

  8. 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  9. 3 to 4 drops red food coloring, optional

  10. Pound or angel food cake

  1. Strawberry Rhubarb Sauce Recipe photo by Taste of Home In a saucepan, combine rhubarb, water, sugar, lemon peel and salt; bring to a boil. Reduce heat. Cook, uncovered, over medium heat until rhubarb is soft, about 10-15 minutes. Remove from the heat and let stand for 5 minutes. Stir in strawberries, lemon juice and cinnamon. Add food coloring if desired. Cool. Serve over cake. Yield: 3 cups.
