  1. 8 cups 1896ml Water

  2. 2 cups 474ml Green split peas

  3. 1 Celery rib - coarsely chopped

  4. 1 Carrot - chopped (large)

  5. 1 Onion - chopped (small)

  6. 1/4 teaspoon 1 1/3ml Thyme

  7. 1 Red pepper

  8. 1 Bay leaf Salt - to taste Freshly-ground black pepper - to taste

  1. Recipe Instructions Combine water, peas, celery, carrot, onion, thyme, red pepper and bay leaf in large kettle. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Boil vigorously 20 minutes, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer until split peas are tender. Press soup through fine sieve and reheat just to boiling point.
