    3. 1 ounce of butter

    4. 1/2 ounce of sugar

    5. 1 gill of water

    1. Mix the flour with a quarter of pint of cold water to a smooth paste.

    2. Dissolve the butter in a saucepan; then stir in the flour and the water.

    3. Add the sugar last.

    4. It is then ready for use.
