  6. 1/4 c Butter

  7. 1 c Sugar

  8. 1 1/2 c Flour

  9. 1 ts Vanilla

  10. 1/2 c Nuts; chopped

  11. 1 c Boiling water

  12. 1 c Date; chopped

  13. 1 ts Baking soda

  14. --TOPPING--

  15. 5 tb Sugar

  16. 5 tb Evaporated milk

  17. 2 tb Butter

  18. Toasted coconut and nuts

  19. Pour boiling water over chopped dates. Let stand until cool and then

  20. add baking soda. Cream sugar and butter well. Add eggs, flour, vanilla and nuts. Add date mixture. Pour into a long flat pan or a loaf pan and bake

  21. 25-30 minutes.

  22. Topping. Combine sugar, milk and butter in pan and boil until thick

  23. approximately 3 minutes. Spread on top of cake and sprinkle with coconut

  24. and nuts. --
