  3. 2 cups california prunes -- pitted and chopped

  4. 1/2 cup water

  5. 1 jar

  6. 10 oz.

  8. **COOKIES**

  9. 2 cups quick rolled oats

  10. 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

  11. 3/4 teaspoon salt

  12. 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  13. 1 cup light brown sugar

  14. 1/2 cup shortening

  15. 1/2 cup butter or margarine

  1. Makes 36 cookies1. Combine prunes, water, marmalade and salt in saucepan; bring to a boil.

  2. Simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally; cool.

  3. Cookies:

  4. Combine oats, flour, salt, baking soda and sugar in a large mixing bowl; blend well.

  5. Add shortening and butter; mix until evenly distributed in dry ingredients.

  6. Divide in half; pack one-half into bottom of 9-inch square baking pan; spread with prune filling.

  7. Pat remaining oatmeal mixture on top of filling; bake in preheated 350 F. oven 45 to 50 minutes.

  8. Cool in pan on wire rack; cut into bars 1 x 2 inches.

  9. NOTE: Good, not too rich! Very crumbly. Keeps well.
