  1. 2 c. milk

  2. 1/2 c. butter

  3. 2 pkgs. yeast

  4. 1/2 c. sugar

  5. 7-9 c. flour

  6. 1/2 c. water - warm

  1. Heat milk and butter until butter melts. Pour into large bowl and cool to room temperature.

  2. In a separate bowl combine yeast, 1 tbsp. of the sugar and the water. Pour the rest of the sugar into the milk. Pour the yeast mixture into the milk. Stir in flour until dough is firm enough to knead, but still moist enough for it to be elastic.

  3. Turn out of the bowl and knead for 5 minutes. Return to bowl and let rise until doubled. Turn out and knead for 5 minutes.

  4. Divide dough into 3 equal parts. Shape into loaves and place in greased bread pans. Let rise until doubled. Bake 25-30 minutes at 325 degrees. This bread is soft enough to be made into rolls.

  5. To make the bread look shiny on top, mix 1 egg yolk with 2 tbsp. of water. Spread the mixture in a thin layer on top of the dough just before baking.
