  1. 1/2 cup butter, softened

  2. 1 cup packed dark brown sugar

  3. 1 egg

  4. 1 tablespoon water

  5. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  6. 1-3/4 cups all-purpose flour

  7. 1/2 teaspoon baking soda Sugar

  1. In a small bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, water and vanilla. Combine flour and baking soda; add to the creamed mixture and mix well. Shape into 1-in. balls. Place on greased baking sheets; flatten with a fork that has been dipped in water. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 325° for 15-20 minutes or until edges begin to brown. Cool on wire racks. Yield: 3-1/2 dozen.
