  1. 1 c sugar

  2. 1/4 c shortening

  3. 1 egg; slightly beaten

  4. 1 c flour

  5. 1 ts baking soda

  6. 1/2 ts cinnamon

  7. 1/4 ts salt

  8. 2 c tart apples; shredded,

  9. -peeled 1/4 c walnuts; chopped

  10. **sauce** 1 c sugar

  11. 2 tb cornstarch

  12. 1/2 c light cream

  13. 1/2 c butter or margarine

  14. 1 1/2 ts vanilla extract

  15. 8 inch square baking pan. Bake at

  16. 350 for 35 to 40 minutes or until cake tests done. For sauce, combine sugar, cornstarch and cream in a saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat; boil for 2 minutes. Remove from the heat. Add butter and vanilla; stir until butter is melted. Serve warm with cake. Source: Taste of Home Magazine.
