  2. Title: Boston Brown Bread - Crockpot

  3. Categories: Breads, Crockpot

  4. Yield: 1 servings

  5. 1 c Whole wheat flour

  6. 1 c Rye flour

  7. 1 c Yellow cornmeal

  8. 2 ts Baking soda

  9. 1 1/2 ts Salt

  10. 1/2 c Dark molasses

  11. 1 1/2 c Buttermilk

  12. 1 c Seedless raisins

  13. 2 c Hot water

  14. 3 to 4 hours This is great with baked

  15. beans and franks. It's dark and dense, and leftovers make

  16. wonderful toast.

  17. To Cook: In a large bowl, combine the whole wheat and rye flour, cornmeal, baking soda, and salt. Make a well in

  18. the center and pour in the molasses, buttermilk, and raisins. Stir until all the ingredients are combined.

  19. Grease a 2- quart mold, flour it, and fill. The batter

  20. should not fill more than 2/3 of the mold. Cover with foil

  21. and tie with string. Set the mold on a trivet in the bottom

  22. of the slow cooker. Pour the hot water into the pot, cover

  23. 3 to 4 hours. The bread is

  24. done when the top is dry and recedes from the edge of the

  25. mold. Cool the bread on a rack for 10 minutes, then turn

  26. out and serve. Makes 1 loaf.
