  1. 1 onion, diced

  2. 1 carrot, diced

  3. 1 stalk celery, diced

  4. 2 tbsp. oil Two

  5. 16 oz. cans white, red or black beans

  6. 2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce

  7. 2 tbsp. lemon juice One

  8. 6 oz. can tomato paste

  9. 3 or 4 tbsp. brown sugar

  10. 2 tbsp. chili powder Salt and pepper

  1. In a saucepan, saute the onion, carrot and celery in oil until the onions are translucent. Add the beans, and then the Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, tomato paste, sugar, chili powder and salt and pepper. Adjust the balance of sweet, tart and hot, then bring to a boil, lower the heat and simmer gently for 20 minutes. Makes 4 to 6 servings.
