  1. 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce

  2. 1/3 cup water

  3. 1/3 cup vegetable oil

  4. 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

  5. 3/4 cup cocoa powder

  6. 1 cup superfine sugar

  7. 1-1/3 cups white rice flour

  8. 1/4 teaspoon salt

  9. 1 teaspoon baking powder

  10. 1-1/2 cups dairy-free semi-sweet chocolate chips

  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF (180ºC or gas mark 4).

  2. With a mixer; beat applesauce, water, oil, vanilla, cocoa and sugar until smooth. Add flour, salt and baking powder and mix until well combined. Stir in chocolate chips.

  3. Spoon batter onto a lightly greased 11x17x1-inch jelly roll pan.

  4. Bake for 7 minutes, rotate the pan and bake for an additional 9 minutes. Let cool completely, then cut with Halloween cookie cutters.

  5. Sprinkle granulated sugar and anything else, including powdered sugar, safe candies or candy pieces, to make the treat your own.
